Makers mark / hallmarks: Hand engraved with often similiar but unique engraving as pictured. These were often used for card games such as trumps. They feature hearts, spades, clubs and diamonds on both sides.
Sourced: in France
Age: circa 1800-1850’s
Materials: mother of pearl
Size roughly: assorted sizes, large rectangles roughly 2.2 x 0.5 inches or 57 x 13 mm
Condition: in antique condition with signs of previous use, natural imperfections in the mother of pearl are often visible, on close inspection some wear to edges and corners is visible on most of the chips as they have been played with over the centuries, some dust has entered some of the engravings, some noticeable damage to edges and corners on a small proportion of chips (no more than five)
Discerning features: outstanding work, every piece individually engraved and formed from mother of pearl
