Globes de Mariée or Marriage Globes were displayed in homes to commemorate the couple’s union. They would be proudly displayed and would hold symbolic keepsakes such as the bride’s wedding crown which would rest on the throne’s velvet cushion. Many have lost their glass domes over the years this one is still present.
Makers mark / hallmarks: none
Sourced: in Normandy, France
Age: circa 1900’s
Size roughly: 20.75 x 14 x 10 inches
Condition: in antique condition with signs of previous use and display, some tarnish and patina to metalwork.
Weight: 3.8kg (will need careful shipping in two packages to avoid risk of damage to dome so international shipping is high I am afraid)
Discerning features: a very nice example complete with it’s dome. This one is very special as it features ceramic flowers rather than the more common wax flowers. The bride figurine is also a rather unusual addition. We wonder if there was a groom at some point… Also we think it may have featured a music box of some sort in it’s base. There is one small pulley to the base and a hole where there was another one. We have not explored further so can not explain this pulley.
