Silver-plated glass pitchers, often referred to as claret jugs or decanters, became popular in the 19th century as decorative and functional tableware. They combined the elegance of silver with the transparency and practicality of glass, allowing for the display of the beverage within. The ornate metalwork often reflected the prevailing decorative styles of the era, such as Victorian or Art Nouveau.
This particular piece, with its diamond-cut glass body and elaborate silver-plated handle and top, is characteristic of the period when such items were used for serving wine or other beverages at formal occasions. The inclusion of a potential chill tube in some similar items suggests a focus on maintaining the beverage’s temperature, adding to its practicality for entertaining.

So when purchasing multiple orders we can sometimes make savings over and above automatic postage discounts applied at checkout. For example; If you buy 4 items weighing 2kg each (allowing 2kg for packaging) we can pack those items into a 10kg package. Automatic discounts applied at checkout are usually pretty close but if you are considering multiple purchases and especially from both of our shops get in touch with details of the items you are considering buying and we will let you know if we can do any better on postage.
